WASHINGTON, D.C. (August 25, 2026)—Submissions are now open for the fifth annual Human Rights & Religious Freedom (HRRF) Journalism Awards, recognizing courageous and impactful journalism that sheds light on human rights, religious freedom, democracy, and the experiences of marginalized communities in India.
Over the past five years, the HRRF Journalism Awards have provided a platform to recognize journalists whose reporting brings underreported stories to public attention, challenges misinformation, and holds institutions and authorities accountable.
Eligible stories must have been published between June 30, 2025, and August 25, 2026, and submissions must be received by Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at 11:00 PM IST. Journalists, independent reporters, and eligible media professionals are encouraged to submit impactful reporting that highlights underreported issues, challenges disinformation and harmful narratives, and documents human rights and religious freedom issues.
“Reaching our fifth year is an important milestone for the HRRF Journalism Awards and reflects the enduring importance of independent journalism,” said Mohammed Jawad, President of the Indian American Muslim Council (IAMC). “At a time when journalists face increasing pressure and the space for independent reporting is under strain, courageous journalism is more important than ever. These awards recognize those who pursue the truth, document abuses, and ensure that the stories of marginalized communities are not erased.”
The winners will be honored at a ceremony in the Bay Area, California, on November 14, 2026.
